  State Requirements
Idaho state law requires that drivers education students be at least 14 years 6 months old to begin drivers education. You must have your drivers education permit before the first day of class. If you have not purchased your permit by the week before the class starts you will not be allowed in the class. Permits are issued by the DMV office on the Nampa/Caldwell Boulevard. To obtain a permit you must take the following items with you to DMV to get the permit.  (The DMV will not issue a permit unless you have these items when you apply.)
  • A picture ID.( yearbook with picture or school ID works fine)
  • Proof of age. (original or certified birth certificate, not a copy)
  • Parent or legal guardian with picture ID.
  • $18.50
  • Compliance form from your school. (School Office or counselor will provide this shows the student is enrolled in school)
  • Social Security Card
  • Contacts or Glasses if used by student.
  • This letter.
  • The student.
Please note if you purchased a permit for your high school program and decide to attend SafeStart Driving School instead you will need a new permit. Public school permits are not applicable to private schools at this time.Tell the licensing agent that you will be attending SafeStart Driving School. Students fill out the application and a parent or guardian must sign in the presence of the licensing agent. The driver’s education permit allows the student to drive only with a certified driving instructor in an approved driver education vehicle. (Remember: You must have your drivers education permit before the first day of class.)
